Fraudulent tax return filed, phone stolen, and more

The following items were taken from Hinsdale Police Department reports:


A resident of the 5800 block of South Elm Street reported April 5 that someone fraudulently filed income taxes using his social security number. The resident also has filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service’s fraud department.

A resident reported April 6 receiving two mail orders in the mail with instructions to deposit the money orders and wire a portion of the money to another account. The resident recognized the scheme as a fraud and did not follow through with it.

Theft from a motor vehicle

A cell phone was reported stolen from an unlocked car in the 100 block of Bruner street April 8. The phone is valued at $200.
