Teens caught taking down street signs, and more

The following items were taken from the Hinsdale Police blotter Aug. 9:

Theft of service

A 36-year-old man, of the 500 block of N. Ashland Avenue, La Grange Park, was arrested at 4:13 a.m. on Aug. 2 at the Shell Gas Station Mini Mart, 210 E. Ogden Ave., and charged with theft of service and resisting/obstructing an officer after he refused to pay a taxi driver for a $40 cab ride.


Two leaf blowers, three wet saws, a compactor, a power washer and a rototiller were stolen from a garage at the 300 block of Forest Road sometime between 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 and 7 a.m. Aug 2. Police reported the garage’s overhead door was left open two inches and unlocked.

Criminal damage to village property

The basketball courts at Stough Park, 19 E. Chicago Ave., were vandalized with white paint. The incident was reported to police 11:18 a.m. on Aug. 2.


A 23-year-old woman, of the 400 block of S. Adams Street, Hinsdale, was arrested at 4:07 a.m. on Aug. 3 at the intersection of Fourth Street and Clay Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane use. Police reported an officer observed the driver’s vehicle to have missing passenger side tires and sparks coming from the rim after it struck a curb.

Theft of village property

Three 17-year-old juveniles, two of Clarendon Hills and one of Hinsdale, were arrested at 10:14 p.m. on Aug. 3 at Stough Park and charged with theft after they were caught attempting to steal street signs. Police reported they were caught with a pair of pliers and street signs in the suspect’s vehicle. The teen from Hinsdale was also charged with possession of cannabis.

Criminal damage to vehicle

Someone smashed a window of a 2003 Buick while parked at the 5600 block of Country Line Road sometime between 10:56 a.m. and 11:56 a.m. on Aug. 4.


A mountain bike valued at $1,000 was stolen from a bike rack at the 10 block of S. Washington Street sometime between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 5.

Possession of alcohol by minor

A 20-year-old man, of the 400 block of Vine Street, Hinsdale, an 18-year-old woman of the 1100 block of E. 56th Street, Chicago and a 16-year-old juvenile of Chicago were all arrested at 1:42 a.m. on May 22 at the intersection of IL Route 83 and Ogden Avenue and charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. The 20-year-old Hinsdale resident was also charged with zero tolerance, improper lane usage and speeding.
