More than three months after he suffered a large stroke, Sen. Mark Kirk was shown in a photo released today by the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where he is undergoing treatment.

The photo was the first released publicly showing Kirk after he was stricken in January. With the photo, the hospital released a top official’s assessment of Kirk’s progress, a report that said he is “mentally sharp,” meeting nearly daily with staff and walking extensively, climbing stairs and getting in and out of vehicles.
