Clerk Surprises Brides with Bouquets

Lake County Clerk Willard Helander surprised four special couples married at the courthouse yesterday with fresh flower bouquets donated by a talented McHenry County florist.

In recognition of Women's History Month in March, the Twisted Petal florist in Crystal Lake asked customers to submit family wedding photographs including vintage bouquets representative of wedding styles during the last century.

Using these photos as inspiration, the designer created four bridal bouquets: Lily of the Valley and delicate white flowers adorned with long white ribbon streamers recalling arrangements of the early 1900s; classic fragrant gardenias from the 1940s; cascading sweetheart roses and star-like flowers from the 50s, and large orchids and white tube roses reminiscent of the 1960s.

It was a lovely and fragrant day in the County Clerk's office, and a special way to congratulate the new brides and grooms who were thrilled with the unexpected touch for their vows.
