6 New Degrees Available at University Center

Six new degrees were added to the University Center of Lake County’s program array via action taken by the Center’s Governing Board on March 14. Interests as diverse as sustaining the natural environment, teaching preschool children with special needs, completing a BSN, understanding the legal system, and tailoring K-12 classroom instruction to multiple student learning styles are addressed by these new undergraduate or graduate programs. The group includes the first bachelor’s degree for off-campus students developed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Each of the six degrees is offered by a different University Center member institution, four by public institutions and two by private non-profit institutions. Four are bachelor’s completion programs and two are master’s degrees. Four are fully online programs and two will include classroom sessions at the Center’s Grayslake facility. All bachelor degree programs include transfer agreements with the College of Lake County to enable prospective students to begin their degrees at the community college and then move smoothly into the program offered through the University Center.

The newly-added programs are:
• An online BS in Earth, Society and Environmental Sustainability offered by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
• A BS in Early Childhood Education (Type 04) with a preschool special education approval offered by Northern Illinois University,
• An online BSN completion program offered by University of Illinois at Chicago,
• An online BA in Legal Studies offered by Dominican University,
• An online MA in Legal Studies offered by University of Illinois at Springfield, and
• An MA in Differentiated Instruction offered by Concordia University Chicago.

Further information about all of these programs will be available at the University Center Open House on Tuesday, March 20 from 6 to 8 pm at the Center’s Grayslake facility, located at 1200 University Center Drive, near the corner of Washington St. and Lancer Lane. More information is also available at www.ucenter.org or by contacting the University Center at 847/665-4000.
