Death of Lake County jail inmate Eugene Gruber ruled homicide

The death of a former Lake County jail inmate who was paralyzed after an altercation with a corrections officer has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, a spokesman said today.

Eugene Gruber, 51, of Grayslake, died March 3 of bronchial pneumonia that stemmed from paraplegia and cervical spine injuries, according to his death certificate.
