Teens host pancake breakfast to raise funds for mission trip

A group of young adults from Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in
Glenview hosted a pancake breakfast fundraiser May 31 to help raise funds for
their upcoming Project Mexico mission to Tijuana, Mexico.

The team of eight high school and college students, along with two youth
advisors, will give up their laptops, cell phones and televisions on July 7 and live in
tents for a week while they help build a home for a family in the Tijuana area.
They will join similar teams from other U.S. Greek Orthodox churches.
The Saints Peter and Paul parish has been sending building teams to participate
in Project Mexico since 1992.  For two decades, Project Mexico has been
involving young people in the alleviation of suffering by building homes for
Mexicos poor.  In 1996, the outreach program was expanded through the
opening of St. Innocent Orthodox Orphanage in Tijuana.  The orphanage
provides a home for teenage boys who have been living on the streets or have
been put out of other orphanages and would otherwise be left to fend for
themselves.  It is one of only four such facilities in the entire country of Mexico.
The building teams camp near the orphanage and interact with and share meals
with the boys during their stay.
