Glencoe Scouts leave on 81-mile hike

Members of Glencoe Boy Scout Troop 28 set off on July 25 from the Glencoe Train Station and connected with Amtraks Southwest Chief to Philmont Scout Reservation in Cimarron, NM. There, the Scouts will undertake a 10-day 81 mile trek through the wildnerness carrying 40 pound backpacks, including food and water. The hike takes place in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at elevations between 6,000 and 12,000 feet. The boys will sharpen their hiking, camping and outdoor cooking skills.
