THE SPORTS DOCTOR – Rick Telander on The Sports Doctor June 14th

I'm excited that famous sports writer and author Rick Telander will be our guest Thursday, June, 14, 2012, 6:30-7pm, 90.9 FM, WDCB.

Rick has been the lead sports writer for the Chicago Sun Times since 1995, having been previously a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and ESPN, the magazine. He is of course remembered for his being one of the original "the sports writers" which ran for years on Chicago TV. He's written 8 books, of which "Heaven is a Playground", being considered one of the best sports books ever (Playboy, 2006).

Rick is a former Northwestern football player who has written extensively about the "concussion crisis" in football (and hockey), and has also paid lots of attention to the ongoing concerns of drugs and sports–2 topics we'll discuss on the show. I've been a fan of Rick's for a long time, he's one of the most insightful writers who is as comfortable discussing world issues, being the parent of an athlete, and so much more in the "crazy sports culture world" we live in. He's one of the real philosophers of the sports writing world- TUNE US IN!

Dr. Robert Weil is a sports podiatrist from Naperville with an office in Aurora. You can hear him on his weekly radio show at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays on 90.9 FM. Contact him at drrweilsportsdoctor@yahoo.com and view his website at www.sportsdoctorradio.com.
