Village Announces Recipients of Historic Preservation Awards

Glen Ellyn, IL – Each year the Glen Ellyn Historic Preservation Commission hosts the Historic Preservation Awards program to recognize homeowners, architects, and builders who support historic preservation. The awards program recognizes projects completed in the prior year and is comprised of four different awards including, Architectural Details, Renovation of the Year, Restoration of the Year, and Streetscape Compatibility. On May 14, 2012, the Commission recognized two homeowners for their efforts to renovate their properties in a manner fitting with their historic character. The Renovation of the Year Award was given to the Stephan family who reside at the Benjamin Gault House at 592 N. Main Street for the work that they completed on a two-car detached garage and rear addition fitting the Victorian Period. The Architectural Details Award was given to the Marcheski family at 583 N. Main Street for the authentic period-style wrought iron Victorian fencing that was installed around the front of their residence.

The Historic Preservation Commission encourages residents in the Village to nominate their homes or other properties that have undergone similar improvements.
