World War II Veteran Louis E. Celli and York Township Supervisor John W. Valle

World War II Veteran Louis E. Celli is the latest honoree of the York Township Senior Center “Remember When” display in the lobby of York Township Hall at 1502 South Meyers Road in Lombard.

Louis joined the Army at the age of 19 in January of 1943. He was a combat engineer and was a member of the 7th Infantry Division, 50th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was part of the assault landings on the islands of Kiska, Kwajalein, Leyte and Okinawa. He received 6 Battle Stars and a Purple Heart for his service. He was discharged on November 20, 1945 with the rank of Tech 5 which is equal to a Corporal. After the war he bought and sold army surplus all over the country.

Supervisor John W. Valle said, “We are proud to honor Louis E. Celli for his service to our country. The ‘Remember When’ display is our way of expressing our gratitude to Louis and all veterans of the United States Armed Forces for the sacrifices they have made in the cause of freedom.”
