Warriors Take 3rd at February Classics Tourney

Coaches and players got a chance to see exactly how they stack up among the competition at the February Classics Wheelchair Basketball Tournament hosted by the Windy City Warriors this past weekend. Ten teams from across the Midwest played an intense two day tournament.

The Warriors, 6-time IHSA state champions and ranked in the top 10 nationally, took a surprising 3rd place with the Milwaukee Wizards taking 1st place and Peoria Wildcats placing 2nd in the varsity A division. “Overall we played well, but the Wizards and Wildcats came out stronger,” says Hosea, Warriors head coach.

With Nationals looming at the end of March, this was the last chance to gauge where they stand. “Everyone gets to see where their strengths and weakness are as a team. Then it gives you another month to fix a few things before we meet up again at Nationals,” says Hosea. “We have a strong team this year, especially with some of our veteran athletes, but we do have some work to do before Nationals.”

The Warriors will face 2nd place Wildcats again at the IHSA State tournament in Peoria March 9th-10th and then possibly the Wizards at the National Tournament being held in Colorado Springs, CO March 22-24th.
