Voting underway for Player of the Month


The TribLocal High School Player of the Month contest is underway.

The Wheaton Sport Center and TribLocal have teamed up to recognize student athletes and make donations to local schools.

Contest sponsor the Wheaton Sport Center will make a donation to the winner’s school, and the athlete will be honored with a plaque.

Wheaton Warrenville South

Senior Kit Bruzek stepped into the starting role this season for the Wheaton South volleyball team after coming off the bench last year, and he has mastered running the Tigers’ offense. At the end of March, he garnered all-tournament honors at the Tiger Classic.

West Chicago

Liam Flaherty had nine kills and seven digs in a volleyball win over Glenbard North.

Wheaton North

Lily Fecho, as of April 27, has struck out 119 and allowed 30 hits in 85 innings and she had a stellar 0.91 ERA.

Glenbard South

Brian Suffern struck out four in the complete game shutout of Timothy Christian.

Glenbard West

Ian Lawson is one of the top 100 players in the nation in volleyball and is currently on the American Volleyball Coaches Association watch list for best players in the nation. All-Conference and All-Area in 2011 and an outside hitter, Lawson holds school record with 440 kills in 2011 and is currently captain of the volleyball team.

St. Francis

Alyssa Fernandez had five RBIs as St. Francis beat St. Eadwards in softball.

Wheaton Academy

Bekah Heubner had five RBIs in a softball win over Timothy Christian.
