Police: Man hit neighbor with baseball bat

A Glen Ellyn man faces an aggravated battery charge after police say he used a baseball bat to strike another man during a fight, sending him to the hospital.

Joseph A. Martinez, 39, 300 block of Duane Street, was arrested Tuesday night after a 39-year-old man was found bruised and bleeding from his head when police responded to the scene inside an an apartment building on Duane Street, where both men were residents, according to a police report.

The man who was hit was transported to a Downers Grove hospital for treatment but was “conscious and alert” at the scene, said Glen Ellyn Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer. Martinez struck the victim “several times” with the bat, a police report said.

Holmer declined to say what caused the scuffle between the men.

Martinez remained in DuPage County jail on Wednesday.
