Glenbard West mourns loss of applied arts instructor

Social workers and counselors are working with staff and students at Glenbard West High School this week following the death of an applied arts department chairman at the school.

Mark Zurales, 48, who worked at the school for nine years, died Nov. 7, according to a message on the school website Tuesday night.

“Mr. Zurales had a great rapport with his students and was a highly respected member of the West community,” said Principal Jane Thorsen in a statement.

A cause of death was not acknowledged in the school announcement.

Thorsen said the school’s “crisis team,” which includes school psychologists and administrators, “is working diligently to meet the needs of students and staff.”
