Blizzard blasts through Downers Grove

The flurries of snow carried in on powerful gusts of wind arrived around 3 p.m., much like meteorologists had predicted.

Many were let out of work early, and by 4 p.m. a crush of Metra commuter trains,  jam-packed with people, arrived on all tracks at the Main Street train station as what could be the storm of the decade made its presence known. From there on out the already harsh conditions only worsened.

As commuters scrambled for their cars, taxis, shuttles and on foot, most were considerably more hurried than the norm.

The wind and the snow kept coming.
