Downers Grove North Cheerleaders Qualify for State Competition

Downers Grove North Junior Varsity Cheerleaders captured 1st place at the Rockford East Cheerleading Invitational on Jan. 17.

The Downers Grove North High School Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleaders have qualified for the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association State Championship after strong finishes at the Rockford East Cheer Invitational in Rockford, Ill., on Jan. 17.
The Varsity team, coached by Meghan Growe, qualified after earning second place in the large varsity division. Varsity participants must score 85% or higher out of a possible 400 points to qualify for the state championship.
DGNs Junior Varsity cheerleaders captured first place in the small JV division at the Rockford competition, outscoring seven other teams, to qualify for the championship. Junior varsity teams must score 80% or more of 400 possible points to qualify for the ICCA championship.
This is a young squad of three sophomores and 12 freshmen from three different junior highs, explains JV Coach Stacy Collett. They have really come together as a team and developed their skills quickly. Its amazing and rewarding to watch their progress. Theres a lot of potential here.

The ICCA State Championship will be held Feb. 13-14,at the Prairie Capitol Convention Center in Springfield, Ill.
