Ansel Adams once said, “A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.”

In their latest photography exhibit, One by One, May 12 through June 23 at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum, 108 S. Bloomingdale Road, the fotoMuses take Adams’ 'One' literally and step away from their more recent themed exhibitions to celebrate their individuality and personal style, presenting their unique visions in photography.

Celebrating their 13th year, this group of professional women is known to display their photos in creative ways. “This exhibit showcases not only our individual talents but also demonstrates our ability to work as a group,” said Bloomingdale artist/photographer, Janice Henry, the group’s coordinator of the exhibit.

The fotoMuses consists of thirteen woman photographers, each with their own artistic voice. “We are individual artists, yet combine to one unified group,” added Henry.

Members of the acclaimed group of photographic artists have created an assortment of styles that highlight their personal uniqueness and abilities. For this exhibit, Henry chose four images, each representing what interests her most about photography; nature, scenic Alaska, architectural and computer alterations. “I wanted to do across section of what I do, a representation of my current work.”

As coordinator, Henry found that as a whole, the exhibit allows the viewers to experience the depth of this group and their talents.

Henry finds being a part of a group only expands a photographer’s talents. When joining the fotoMuses, her focus was on the floral world. “They challenged me with themed exhibits, opening my eyes beyond. I had to think differently.” She explained that it does expand you creatively to work with a group and being around other photographers who look at things differently and go about things differently. It’s been good.”

At this exhibit, the fotoMuses are pleased to welcome their newest member, Joanne Barsanti of Roselle. The fotoMuse members also include Linda Markese, Marita Blanken and Noriko Buckles of Downers Grove, Diane Bruno and Delta Greene of Chicago, Janice Henry, Deborah Kolek and Jackye Revely of Bloomingdale, Aichen Ho of Naperville, Joan Kalmanek of Lisle, Judy Kinal of Roselle and Elizabeth Smartt of Elmhurst.
