Cops: Teens went on ‘joy ride’ with pizza delivery car

Two teenagers looking for adventure on Thursday night allegedly stole a pizza delivery car that was left running as the driver delivered food, Des Plaines authorities said.

The vehicle was later found nearby.

A 15-year-old woman and a 16-year-old man allegedly jumped in the car, which had the key in the ignition, around 7:04 p.m. on the 900 block of Beau Drive, said Sgt. Mike Holdman. The 43-year-old driver somehow called 911 and told officers he saw three juveniles near the car when he made his deliveries, Holdman added.

Police later spotted a 13-year-old boy in the area and as they spoke with him, the two teens showed up. The driver’s cell phone was found on one of the teenagers, who later admitted to taking the car for a “joy ride,” Holdman said. The car was found on Algonquin Road near Friendship Park Conservatory.

“They saw an opportunity and they took it,” Holdman said when asked why the teens took the vehicle.

The three teens were arrested and charges are pending. They are from Des Plaines and Mount Prospect.
