Young gymnasts at the North Suburban YMCA recently showed off their skills while raising money for the Y gymnastics program during the 2nd Annual Y Cartwheel-A-Thon. 75 participants challenged themselves to perform cartwheels for three minutes straight, and solicited sponsorships for either flat rate or per-cartwheel donations. One student, Liat Berkowitz, completed a dizzying 117 cartwheels in her three minutes.

The event raised over $5000, enabling the Y to purchase a new vault table, vault runway, vault landing mat and two air floor mats. The two top fundraisers, Katie Brownlee and Lindsay Fraser, brought in over $1000 each. “We are extremely proud and grateful to the students who participated and their sponsors,” said Y gymnastics coordinator Carol Sassorossi. “Thanks to their hard work and dedication, we exceeded our fundraising goals and had a great time too!”
