Community Service Clubs and Organizations Invited to Reserve Booth Space Now for Deerfield Park District Community Services Day

Local governmental and nonprofit agencies are coming together for the 6th year in a row to provide Community Services Day, a free, area-wide event for residents of all ages on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Brickyards Park/Patty Turner Center, in Deerfield. The purpose of this event is to promote services available to community residents. Local community service clubs and organizations are invited to reserve booth space now. The Main Community Services Day Event runs from noon until 4:00 p.m. with additional Passenger/Child Safety Seat Checkpoint from 9-11:00 a.m. at the south parking lot, SWALCO electronics recycling/collection activity tentatively set for 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. near the Public Works building and a new addition, also from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: a Pet Vaccination and Microchip Clinic. The American Legion Post 738 will post the colors at 1:00 p.m., followed by a special presentation to honor Emergency Responders, as this year’s event falls on 9/11. The Deerfield Lions Club will again bring their huge inflatable mascot Leo the Lion, and Deerfield Park Foundation will sponsor balloon twisters and other entertainment and run a Helicopter Ball Drop at approximately 3:00 p.m. Live entertainment will be on stage throughout the afternoon. All booth vendors are asked to bring appropriate give-away items and/or to run some type of game or activity (both to be pre-approved by the CSD ‘10 Committee). The annual Community Services Day is a unique, purposeful and fun event. Demos, exhibits and activities being planned for the event range from Performances, Games, Give-Aways and Adult Programs to Inflatable Rides for kids, a Flight for Life helicopter take-off and landing, Lake County police canine unit, Residential Sprinkler Live Fire Demo, “Touch-a-Truck” activities, and the always hilarious Mascot Race. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Other activities include an Art Tent sponsored by the PTOs of Deerfield School District 109 and manned with the help of 6th Grade Volunteers from Bannockburn School as well as a DUI simulated driving experience (with specific height requirements) operated by the Police Department staff members present at the event. Community Services Day is hosted by the Deerfield – Bannockburn Fire Protection District, Deerfield and Bannockburn Police Departments, Deerfield Park District and the Village of Deerfield. Corporate financial sponsors include The John Buck Company of Parkway North; Astellas U.S., LLC; and the Deerfield Park Foundation as Entertainment Sponsor. Jewell Contract Dining has generously agreed to contribute lunches for the event workers. Public parking for this event is at the 155 Pfingsten office building parking lot (across from Brickyards Park). The event takes place rain or shine. Emergency services demonstrations and helicopter activities depend upon availability and weather.
