Illinois Tollway seeks independent engineer to review construction practices, old work

As it launches a $12.1 billion rebuilding and widening program, the Illinois Tollway plans to hire an independent engineering firm to review its construction practices and re-evaluate work already done, officials said Thursday.

The consulting engineer’s duties will include taking core samples on existing highways “to ensure compliance” with contract materials and specifications, according to the tollway.
