MCC hosts pediatric cancer research fundraiser

Volunteers joined Friday at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake to go bald as a sign of solidarity in the fight against pediatric cancer. The Kiwanis Club of Crystal Lake, Key Club at Crystal Lake South High School and MCC Student Senate sponsored the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event that aimed to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Highlights included skits from the MCC Drama Club, as well as barber and salon professionals from the Crystal Lake area who donated their hair-cutting skills for the shave-a-thon. The event honored cancer-survivor Josh Brent, who lost most of his hair during treatment for a cancerous tumor, which was removed from his brain when he was 8 years old. Brent travels the area sharing his story and shaves his head for the event each March. Brent is a sophomore at South. www.twitter.com/lsynett
