Ballplayers show their skills

Young ballplayers from across the globe competed Friday afternoon at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake as a part of the 19th annual International Baseball Championships. A home run derby as well as base running and throwing accuracy challenges highlighted the competition. Close to 1,300 youth baseball players from all over the world invaded  McHenry County last week as 84 teams from the across the United States, Brazil, Japan, Sri Lanka, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico compete in the 10-day event hosted by the McHenry County Youth Sports Association. The tournament features three age groups — 15 and under, 13 and under, and 11 and under — with games played in Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Cary and Lake in the Hills. The tournament runs through Aug. 7.
