In collaboration with The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, the McHenry County Bicycle Advocates are sponsoring a Midnight-to-Sunrise bicycle ride and fund raiser through the City of Crystal Lake on Saturday Night/Sunday Morning on August 4 & 5, 2012. The purpose of the ride is to promote bicycling as an alternate means of transportation and exercise within the City of Crystal Lake and to benefit The Land Conservancy of McHenry County. The idea is to have a unique, fun and healthful activity for area residents to experience the streets, landmarks and people of Crystal Lake and to further promote Crystal Lake as a bicycle friendly community.

The organizing group, lead by representatives from the McHenry County Bicycle Advocates, have secured approval from the City of Crystal Lake and the McHenry County Conservation District to use their facilities for a safe and an enjoyable ride for all involved.

The ride route will start and end at the Crystal Lake City Hall complex and traverse points of interest such as the City’s downtown Metra Railroad station, Three Oaks Recreation Area, the City’s namesake lake, the Dole Mansion/Lakeside Arts Legacy, the library, and area high schools.

Registration is $30 per adult ($40 night of the ride) and $15 per child under age 15. Each participant will receive a reflective and safety oriented ride t-shirt. In addition, $15 of each adult registration is tax deductible. Registration materials are available online at If any one is interested in volunteering or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Ron Eberle via e-mail at or at 815-356-0531.
