Faith in Action Honors Veterans – On Veteran's Day and Every Day

Every day, a senior veteran in McHenry County is calling for help. And because of Faith in Action, a caring voice answers.
Faith in Action of McHenry County (FIAMC), a senior services organization located in Crystal Lake, in partnership with the McHenry County Veterans Assistance Commission (MCVC) assists senior county veterans on a daily basis with transportation needs to the VA hospital in North Chicago. FIAMC volunteers deliver the veterans from their homes to/from drop-off locations around the county, where they are picked up by MCVC buses.

On November 11, 2010, FIAMC will sponsor a Veteran’s Day event in honor our county’s veterans. Veterans who have served our nation from World War II to the present will gather to celebrate a day in
their honor at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hall in Woodstock.

An intergenerational celebration has been arranged with local home educated children, who will learn why veterans are deserving of honor. Students will develop an appreciation for the sacrifices that were made in the past so that they can live in freedom today. The children will assist in serving a meal to the veterans and afterwards, a video will be shown of the vets’ experiences. The honor guard, composed mainly of WWII veterans, will post the colors.

Faith in Action of McHenry County serves more than 1000 seniors in McHenry County with a team of 350 volunteers. If you are in need of no-cost services, or would like to volunteer to help McHenry county seniors, please contact Faith in Action at (815)455-3120, or visit their web site
