MCC foundation announces fall scholarship opportunities

The Friends of the McHenry County College Foundation has announced its scholarship offerings for the upcoming fall semester.

The group has 36 scholarships that vary in amount by the type of award, according to a press release. Applicants will be judged on need, merit and program of study.

Funding is available for students enrolled in a variety of majors, including construction and culinary management, as well as horticulture, plant sciences, early childhood education and welding, among others. Several other scholarships are also available for students with no specific major.

A new scholarship this fall is the Joe Blanco Benevolent Heart Scholarship established in memory of former MCC special needs tutor Joe Blanco, who volunteered for several different organizations in the community. The applicants must demonstrate and provide proof of community service and a high school or college GPA of at least 2.5.

Students with disabilities, those who will be the first in their family to complete college, and those who completed the GED will also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships.

The scholarships are available until they are filled. General and new-student registration begins April 30.

Listings of the scholarships as well as applications are available at

Applications must be completed online, printed out, signed and returned to the Financial Aid Office, Room A262 at the community college, located at 8900 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake.
