Tryon announces re-election bid

State Rep. Mike Tryon

State Rep. Mike Tryon

State Rep. Mike Tryon, R–Crystal Lake, this week debunked rumors that he would seek a newly created Senate seat by announcing his election bid for the 66th District.

Tryon has served as the state representative for District 64 since 2005. Because of newly drawn legislative maps, Tryon will no longer reside in that district when they take effect.

The new district includes the southwest portion of Crystal Lake, and portions of Lakewood, Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and Huntley. Thirty-percent of District 66 extends into Kane County, including portions of East and West Dundee, Carpentersville, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, Rural Pingree Grove and Elgin.

“While the Senate seat was tempting, I’m quite content in the House of Representatives,” Tryon said in a press release. “I believe that through the relationships I have built and knowledge I have gained since becoming a legislator, I will best be able to serve residents of McHenry and Kane counties by remaining in the House.”

District 64 will now include most of Crystal Lake, the northeast edge of McHenry County and a major portion of Lake County. Rep. JoAnn Osmond, R–Antioch, resides in what will become the 64th District.
