Doris Frame has organized sewing workshops to produce sundresses and shorts for Haitian children at the Congregational Church of Batavia and elsewhere.

Doris Frame, a Batavia, IL, resident and member of the Congregational Church of Batavia has made six trips to help the children of Jacmel, Haiti, since the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010. Each time, she has brought donated supplies that include sundresses made from pillowcases and shorts made from T-shirts by church members and others as well as diapers. She has distributed these in Jacmel with the help of Mike Rigel, director of community outreach for the Joy In Hope orphanage of Jacmel, Haiti.

On May 6, 2012, the Outreach Team from Congregational Church of Batavia will reciprocate, hosting Mike Rigel in Batavia. He will bring greetings from Joy In Hope in a short mission presentation at both the 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services. After that, all who are interested are cordially invited to join church members at the simple Haitian-themed luncheon to be held after the second service, starting at about 11:45 a.m. that morning. Standard Haitian fare centers around the staples: beans and rice. Side dishes consist of fruits, vegetables and Haitian condiments.

After lunch, Mike will talk at greater length about the work that Joy In Hope does in Jacmel and his role there. Among his other duties, Mike leads the teams that come to work with orphanage, oversees teams building homes in the community, and mentors/coordinates with the families that move from tent cities into those homes. His wife Georgette facilitates hospital feedings for patients.

To ensure that sufficient lunch can be provided, the organizers ask that anyone interested in attending the lunch and hearing more about Joy In Hope and Jacmel would please RSVP by May 2 to the church office, 630-879-1999 or bataviaucc@sbcglobal.net. You can also contact the Doris Frame, 630-406-8474 or dresses4haiti@gmail.com for more information.
