Valley Sheltered Workshop in Batavia is a place filled with wide smiles and hearty laughter. More importantly, it is a place where developmentally challenged adults can do productive work and socialize in an atmosphere of love. The Valley Sheltered Workshop was begun during the 1960's by the Rev. Gilbert Johnstone. He recognized that adults with special needs flourished in an atmosphere where they feel like productive members of society. Today this Batavia non-profit is under the directorship of Sue Lusted. Among her many duties, Sue works with Kane and DuPage-area businesses to find small office-type jobs for the Workshop. One such company is NewGen Business Solutions in Warrenville, Illinois. NewGen Business Solutions awarded Valley Sheltered Workshop the third job in a row. Rick Kostopoulos, NewGen's President and CEO, states "It is a triple win situation when working with Valley Sheltered Workshop. Workshop employees earn money, the Workshop receives a donation for services provided, and NewGen employees can devote their time to more critical tasks."

The Valley Sheltered Workshop is located at 325 Main St., Batavia. Their phone number is 630-879-2359. Donations are always welcome.
