Community chorus in Batavia to sing Schubert Mass

On June 24, a new community choral group will be performing Franz Schubert's Mass in G at the Congregational Church of Batavia. Chorus director Victoria Linich is a member of the Batavia Arts Council and also Worship and Music Director at the Congregational Church. She has been planning this community concert for more than a year.

So far, the chorus includes singers from at least three Batavia churches. However, singers need neither church affiliation nor Batavia residency to join the project. Rehearsals have just started, and anyone who likes choral singing and can make most of the next three Tuesday and Wednesday evening rehearsals is invited to join.

Rehearsals run from 7:15-8:45 p.m. at the church. On the morning of June 23, the chorus dress rehearsal will take place, uniting the singers with the string quintet and organ for the first time.

If you’re not a singer, mark June 24 on your calendar and plan on attending, because a chorus needs an audience, too. the Congregational Church's sanctuary has the perfect acoustics for a performance such as this. The program starts at 4. No tickets are needed but donations will be accepted to defray costs. A small reception will be held after the performance.
