Weekend getaways: A guide to suburban B&Bs, historic hotels

Crisp autumn temperatures and colorful fall foliage create an idyllic setting no matter where you travel. (For the guide) So why waste valuable time and money traveling to the ends of the earth for a weekend vacation when there’s plenty of getaway-worthy destinations right outside your front door. Instead of schlepping out to the city for a couple of days — been there, done that — why not turn to the neighboring suburbs for that much-needed R&R. You’d be surprised how many cozy bed and breakfasts and charming hotels, some of which have more historical significance than their city-dwelling counterparts, exist among the many suburbs of Chicago. Before planning your next escape, check out TribLocal’s weekend getaway guide to suburban B&B’s and historic hotels.

  1. Hi Pat, actually, we did get Under the Ginkgo tree. This is just the photo gallery. We have a story with info on all of the area B&Bs and historic hotels – look under Oak Park: /barrington/2011/10/13/weekend-getaways-a-guide-to-suburban-bbs-historic-hotels/

  2. You left out Under the Ginkgo Tree B&B in Oak Park! I admit to knowing the proprietor, Gloria Onischuk, for a long time (our children were at OP-RF HS), but her Victorian charmer and her warm personality make her B&B a great place to stay.
