Scorcher: Thursday will be hottest day in nearly 7 years

Thursday is shaping up to be the hottest day in nearly seven years, with highs of 100 degrees or more that could set a new record.

The last time we topped 100 degrees at O’Hare International Airport — the city’s official recording station — was back on July 24, 2005 when the mercury climbed to 102 degrees. The record for June 28 is 101 degrees, set in 1971.

We’ll get a running start Wednesday with sunny skies and highs in the mid 90s. On Thursday, sunny again with the temperature likely to hit 101, according to the Chicago Weather Center. The combination of heat and humidity will make it feel more like 105 to 110.
