Illinois high school track and field: Rare sectional during the day cause of concern to some coaches, athletes

Hundreds of athletes will rise early May 10 and head to Concordia University to try to qualify for the girls track and field state meet.

Some coaches would rather those athletes be in school.

The Illinois High School Association approved a combined Class 2A and 3A girls track sectional at Concordia in River Forest beginning at 10 a.m. on a Thursday. That means athletes from 32 teams will miss a full school day. It also is the national testing date for the AP English exam.
