Wheaton Warrenville South High School Host Show Choir Invitational
The “Classics”, Wheaton Warrenville South High School's competitive show choir group is off to a great season!  The Classics have been ranked nationally and are regarded as one of the finest high school show choir groups in the country.

The Classics continued their award winning season on February 21st with their second consecutive Grand Champions award at the Sullivan High School Show Choir Invitational, in Sullivan, Illinois.  In Sullivan, they were also awarded Best Vocals and Best Female Soloist (Lauren Roesner).

In January, the Classics were recognized as Grand Champions in Marysville, Ohio where they also earned Best Choreography, Vocals, Musical Ensemble, Costumes and Best Male Soloist (David Davis.)  They are currently ranked nationally as one of the top 10 show choirs in the country. In late March, the Classics will conclude their competitive season at the New York City “Fame” competition.

Under the direction of John Burlace, the co-ed group of singers, dancers and instrumentalists consists of 55 members.  It is an extra-curricular activity and members must audition to participate.  This year's show is a 22 minute performance of fast-paced tunes including a ballad medley (Amazing Grace).

On Saturday, March 14th, Wheaton Warrenville South will be hosting the 2nd annual Show Choir Invitational.  The daytime schedule of preliminary competition will feature over 15 groups from as far away as Petal, MS.  Unisex, concert choirs as well as mixed choir groups and soloists will also compete.  Local high school groups include Arlington Heights, Waubonsie Valley, Palatine and Buffalo Grove will compete.

In total, groups from Minnesota, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana will be competing.
The show choir groups competing throughout the day are judged on visual as well as vocal skills.  Visually, judges will score the groups on choreography, costuming, pacing and flow, facial communication and poise.  Vocally, the judges will look for excellence in tone quality, diction, communication of lyrics and interpretation.

The finals will take place during the evening and will feature the top six groups chosen by the judges.  The winner of the final round will be named "Grand Champion".  While the judges tabulate the scores of the competitors, the Classics will perform in exhibition.  Immediately following their performance, the Grand Champion will be announced.

Full day tickets are available at the door of Wheaton Warrenville High School, 1920 S. Wiesbrook Rd, Wheaton, for $15. Competition begins at 8:00 am, with Final Awards presented at 11:00 pm.
