Approximately 130 people were in attendance Feb. 27 and Feb. 28 for this first-time, sweet adventure as the game of Candy Land came to life at the Iowa Community Center. With its popularity soaring and all time slots filled for what was originally a one day event, a second day was added to accommodate the demand for this new and soon to be traditional treat for community members. Players of all ages went through the game in groups of four, acting as the Gingerbread boys and girls, but before they made their way onto the winding game board, participants decorated cupcakes provided by Kuppies Bakery with their choice of chocolate or vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Participants also had the opportunity to create chocolate or white chocolate lollipops before taking their candy coated journey into the gymnasium where the “life size” Candy Land game board and characters were waiting. When the game concluded, players had the chance to select a glitter or scratch and sniff Candy Land sticker, commemorating their trip through such areas as Gumdrop Mountains, Lollipop Woods and the Peppermint Forest.
