Social Scrabble at the Palatine Library
By ALub
Lillian M. and Susan Strunk, Library Director, enjoying a game of Scrabble.

The Palatine Public Library District invites adults to enjoy their monthly sessions of Social Scrabble, held on the first Thursday afternoon of each month from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

"We call it Social Scrabble to communicate to people that it's not a highbrow or cutthroat playing group--it's just for fun," explains librarian Gwenyth Udd.

And fun it is. Players have been laughing as they put together a good word and playfully moaning in frustration when their opponent makes a particularly good play.

At the beginning of each session, players draw tiles to determine who will play together. The Library has invested in five new Scrabble boards and a Scrabble dictionary to be used at the programs, and provides paper and pencils for keeping score.

If you're a Scrabble fan, or would like to try it out, please call (847) 358-5881, ext. 132, to register for the next program, on November 5.

Join the fun!
