Learn about healthy living, positive aging, travel, finance and more, and get answers to issues you face as baby boomers at the Mundelein Park District’s FREE Boomer Expo. In its second year, this boomer-focused showcase is being held on Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Regent Center (1200 Regent Drive) in Mundelein. The event is geared towards boomers, however all ages are welcome.

On-hand for the event will be Shawn Killackey, author of the book, “Mundelein.” Killackey will be available to share his love of Mundelein and to sign copies of his 127-page book that is part of Arcadia Publishing's popular "Images of America" series. The book includes dozens of photographs dating back to the 19th century, including key historical figures such as Cardinal George Mundelein, the town's namesake; original fire chief John Dietz and A.C. Kracklauer, a business owner who donated land for a fire station and Kracklauer Park which bears his name.

Boomers can also enjoy exhibits and special services including FREE hand renewal treatments and chair massages. Travel ideas, financial planning and senior living options will also be available. Important organizations within your community such as the Mundelein Park District and the Mundelein Police and Fire Departments will have information available about fun and informative programs as well as ways you can make a difference with the Community Emergency Response Teams and Citizen Police Academy.

The Boomer Expo is free and no registration is required. For more information, visit www.mundeleinparks.org, or call Mary Yoho, Mundelein Park & Recreation District Adult Program Supervisor, at 847-566-4790.

The Regent Center is located at 1200 Regent Drive, one block west of Midlothian Road at Crystal Street, in Mundelein.

Dachshunds have the luck of the Irish

Donning sparkly green bowties and snazzy shamrock vests, dachshunds partied and played at the March 14 Suburban Chicagoland Dachshunds Lovers' annual Luck of the Irish Dachshund Get Together. Dachshund owners and lovers from around suburban Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana attended the event.

Members of the group met at Bark n' Park, 14100 W. Lambs Lane, in Libertyville for an afternoon of play, food and fundraising.

The event raised money for Dodger's List, which offers education and support for owners and dogs suffering from interverbral disc disease.
