Blackhawk Area Council Troop 927 Provides Community Service at Vehe Farm
On a beautiful late November Saturday morning, participants from Barrington’s Troop 927 of the Blackhawk Area Council Danny Guarnieri, Joey Moote, Arun Jayaraman, Brian Guarnieri and Girl Scout Grace Moote with adult leadership support from Dan & Anne Guarnieri, Scott Moote, and Bob and Sue Lehde spent the morning at Vehe Farm performing a community service project. Mulch was applied around oak saplings in the oak savanna and wetland area of the farm, around the orchard saplings behind the historic 1866 farmhouse, and a crabapple by the original outbuildings. In addition, long-term protection in the form of heavy gauge wire cages was installed around the saplings to protect them from deer damage. Lastly, sitting areas in the woodland behind the farmhouse and the prairie trail entrance by the educational butterfly garden were mulched. Troop 927 has been very supportive of Vehe Farm with several Eagle Projects such as the restored 1920’s horse-drawn bobsled. See the Triblocal.com article regarding the bobsled at: http://www.triblocal.com/Lake_Zurich/Detail_View/view.html?type=stories&action=detail&sub_id=112950.
