Animal Footprint Stands and Bluebird Houses are Eagle Scout Project at Vehe Farm
Troop 964 volunteers and Greg Frech (fourth from left) install animal footprint stands at Vehe Farm

Volunteers and fellow Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 964 helped Greg Frech come closer to achieveing his Eagle Award by making and installing educational animal footprint stands, the dispensers for the educational animal brochures, and bluebird houses for historic Vehe Farm.

The stands and brochure holders are an important part of the Leave No Child Inside initiative that the Vehe Farm Foundation and Chicago Wilderness brought the Lake Zurich, Deer Park, and greater Barrington areas. The stands will display a picture and the animal footprints of thirteen local animals that could be seen at Vehe Farm. The brochures developed by Girl Scout Troop 816, provides a detailed description of the animal including interactive activities for the children. When walking the farm trails, both children and adults will be able to determine what animal made the various footprints in the soil or snow. The bluebird houses will replace deteriorating houses along the Vehe Farm bluebird trail.

Vehe Farm with its historic barn along with original outbuildings and farmhouse, is the Village of Deer Park's Community Center. It is located at 23680 West Cuba Road and is open to the public year-round.
