New Trier girls indoor track competes in Hinsdale

New Trier's varsity indoor track team took third at a quad meet March 6 hosted at Hinsdale Central High School.

The Trevians had 57 points. Edging them out were Wheaton Warrenville South with 75.5 points and Hinsdale Central with 104.

At the varsity level, New Trier had a strong showing in the relay events; the girls took first in the 1600-meter, 4X160 and 3200-meter relays.

For the frosh/soph team, New Trier took first place in the 3200-meter relay and first in the 400-meter dash.

New Trier was coming off a win at the 9th annual John Davis Relays, which took place at Glenbrook South High School.

"We broke four school records and five meet records," said Bob Spagnoli, head coach of the track team.

Spagnoli said his goal for the team this year is to win the conference and send as many athletes to the state meet as possible. Then, he wants the girls to compete on Saturday.

"Just making the state meet is not our primary goal," he said.

With nearly 150 athletes competing this year, Spagnoli said the team's depth is its strength.

"Our distance, mid-distance, sprinting and field events are going to be strong," he said. "Having such large numbers helps us in every one of hte 18 events outdoors."
