2010 GOOD CITIZEN WINTER SIDEWALK SAFETY AWARD PRESENTED TO TREK BICYCLE STORE
On April 19th, 2010, Buzz Whowell and Bill Wrobel of the Downers Grove Watch Association presented the 2010 GOOD CITIZEN WINTER SIDEWALK SAFETY AWARD to Jerry Keen and Greg Nesypor, Managers of the TREK BICYCLE STORE, 639 Ogden Avenue, Downers Grove, Illinois, for their super efforts to remove piled snow to permit use of the sidewalk by pedestrians walking along Ogden Avenue. The Downers Grove Watch Association started a Winter Sidewalk Safety Campaign during the Winter 2008/2009 and continued with and educational campaign for Winter 2009/2010 to inform business owners and operators along Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove of the Village Ordinance prohibiting blocking pedestrian use of sidewalks by piling driveway and parking lot snow over sidewalks in the Village. (see the Ordinance and supporting discussions for 2009 and 2010 by visiting Web Site: downersgrovewatch.org). At the Downers Grove Council Meeting of April 13th, 2010, Bill Wrobel advised the Council, Village Staff, and Citizens of Downers Grove of the Award, and asked the Community to support the good citizens at Trek Bicycle Store, when filling their bicycle needs. Ogden Avenue was safer for pedestrians because of their efforts.
