Education expert to discuss teaching techniques for the 21st century

W. Gardner Campbell, director of the Academy for Teaching and Learning at Baylor University (Waco, Texas), will present a public lecture from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 19 in the Tellabs Lecture Hall (Birck Hall of Science, Room 112) at Benedictine University.

Campbell, an associate professor of Literature and Media in the Honors College at Baylor, will present “Integrative Learning and the Gift of New Media: General Education for the 21st Century.” The lecture is sponsored by the Task Force on General Education at Benedictine University.

Campbell earned a Ph.D. and Master of Arts in English at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, Va.) after graduating magna cum laude from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. He began his teaching career as an instructor at the Virginia Governor’s School for the Gifted in 1979.

Campbell has also taught at the University of Richmond (Richmond, Va.), the University of San Diego (Calif.) and the University of Mary Washington (Fredericksburg, Va.), where he served as Assistant Vice President for Teaching and Learning Technologies in addition to his teaching responsibilities.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

The high school youth group of First Presbyterian Church of La Grange is setting up for their big rummage sale to raise funds for the summer mission trip to help others.  The youth will be heading to Cleveland to work at soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and mission programs.  The sale dates/times are:

Fri. March 12 - Preview Sale, 7:00 - 9:00 pm $5 admission

Sat. March 13 - Regular Sale, 8:00 am ­ 2:00 pm Free Admission
Everything Half price 12:00 - ­ 2:00 pm

Church is located 2 blocks West of La Grange Rd, 4 blocks South of Ogden
