A Bolingbrook panel that authorizes permits for businesses agreed Wednesday night to amend village policy to address for the first time gold-buying establishments and pawnshops.
The move comes after Midwest Gold Buyers, Inc., a jewelry and gold-buying store, was recommended denial for a permit on July 21 for its proposed store at 198 S. Bolingbrook Drive, the former site of a Kentucky Fried Chicken.
“The biggest concern was issues brought up from a crime standpoint,” said Dennis Kowalczyk, director of community development for the village.
The Plan Commission unanimously approved an amendment that sets parameters for gold-buying businesses and pawnshops, including where they would be allowed to operate. The amendment needs approval from village trustees to go into effect.
Meanwhile, the commission will have a second public hearing in a couple of weeks for the god-buying business, Kowalczyk said.
