HOW TO USE THIS SITE

Click the "Share Stories" button below the town name near the top of the page. The "Share Stories" button will be highlighted when you access the form page.

In the first drop-down box, select a category for your posting. Select the one that best fits the topic of your post. Next, write a headline. Use the headline to create interest in your story.

Below that is a large text box where you write your story.

Story writing tips: Be sure to include the 5Ws and an H: Who, what, where, when, why and how. Include important specifics including names (who), places and addresses (where), and dates and times (when). Give other users a reason to read your story-make sure there is a sentence or paragraph that makes the point of the story clear (what and why). When appropriate, explain how (this is the H) the story developed. If you are describing an upcoming event, be sure to let readers know what they need to do to participate.

Remember that your story needs to be complete, but that doesn't necessarily mean long. In fact, shorter is better, particularly if you would like to see your story selected for future print editions of Triblocal. And, if your story is selected for print, a Triblocal.com journalist will contact you by telephone to confirm certain details.

Keep it interesting. Using quotes from people enlivens a story and makes readers feel like they were there. Stories that also convey how something looked, sounded or even smelled make for compelling reading.

If you want to include a photo, click the "Browse" button to upload a photo from your hard drive. Choose the file directory where your photo is located, then select and upload the photo. See the "Photo Editing" section below for more information on picture resolution and file formats. Finally, you can add a caption to the photo - usually this is a short sentence explaining the photo. Be sure to provide the first and last names of the people in the photo. You also may want to include their ages and home towns.

If you want to save what you've entered and come back to it later, you can "Save as a Draft" by clicking on that option. You can access the story later from "My Stuff."

When you're finished with a story, click "Post." It's as simple as that! Story postings show up immediately, and other users can comment on them. Photos are posted after a Triblocal.com editor reviews them.

Edit Stories, Events or Photos

Once you post content to the site, stories and photos can be edited or deleted at your discretion. From the page where your story or photo is posted, click on the headline. Or, you can view the item from your "My Stuff" page. After you open the story, click the "Modify" option near the top right of the page's middle section. Make your edits on the form page that appears.

Print or E-mail Your Posting

Share your stories and photos quickly and easily! Once you're satisfied with your posting, you have the option of printing and/or e-mailing your story/event/photo to others (find these links near the "Modify" link near the top right of the story section). You can print copies of your story or e-mail it to as many people as you choose. Separate multiple e-mail addresses with a comma or semi-colon. Note: Clicking these links opens up a new window.

In the box for "Detailed Date Info," give the time of your event, where it's being held, ticket prices, rain date info, etc.

In the "Headline" text entry box, post the name of your event. Below that is a space where you can enter contact information. In the big text box below that, describe your event. Give information about your group, club or organization. Explain why people should attend the event, and provide details about what they can expect when they get there.

See the "Photo Editing" section below for more information on picture resolution and file formats. You can add a caption to the photo - usually this is a short sentence explaining the photo.

When you're done, click "Post." Postings show up immediately, and other users can comment.

You can also e-mail the event to others or print it out.

Use the headline to create interest in your photo(s). In the next "drop-down box," select the number of photos you will be uploading. Based on the number you indicate, the form page will be updated to allow you to upload one or more photos. The maximum is six photos per gallery, but you can upload as many galleries as you choose. In the next field, a large text box, provide some basic information to introduce your photo gallery.

For each photo that you want to post, click "Browse" to upload the photo from your hard drive. See the "Photo Editing" section below for more information on picture resolution and file formats. Enter a brief caption for the photo, with details on that particular photo. Enter a brief caption to provide details for each photo. Don't forget to include the first and last names of the people in your picture! Once you upload your photos, you will see smaller versions of them in your gallery; click to see them in full size (a new window will open). You can also edit or delete them. Please do not violate copyright or other laws when you post photos. (See the "User Agreement" for specific posting guidelines.)

When you're done uploading your photos, click "Post." That's it! Galleries will be reviewed by an editor and will be posted within next business day if they meet the guidelines in the "User Agreement." After photos are posted, other users can view and comment on them. Click on individual photos to get a larger view.

Once posted, photos can be edited or deleted at your discretion. To do this, click on the headline of your photo gallery and follow the directions for editing stories/events/photos.

You can also e-mail your photo galleries to others or print them out.

Photo Editing

Choose photos that tell a story. (Remember that a picture is worth a thousand words!) Get close to the action. Candid photos work better than posed shots, but sometimes a good portrait tells your story best. People and faces make your photos more interesting-and be sure to get the names of the people in the picture.

We recommend that photos are at least 300 dpi and 1000 x 1000 pixels or larger. Photos also must be in JPEG format. Select attractive photos that are clear, bright and colorful, with good contrast.

Linking to photos on other Web sites is not allowed - photos must come from your hard drive.

Triblocal does not offer on-site photo editing capability, but there are many free or low-cost software programs available. Try Gimp (for Mac or Windows) or Graphic Converter (Mac only). Other programs can be found at Download.com (CNET.com, for Mac and Windows). If you're looking for something a bit more polished, try Adobe PhotoShop Elements or the full version of Photoshop (Mac and Windows).

Remember, to be considered for the print publication a photo must be at least 300 dpi and 1000 x 1000 pixels or larger. Triblocal will contact you if your photo is selected.

Topic Search

Found in the navigation bar on the left, this feature allows you to search your town by topic. Results will display all stories, photos and events for the topic selected.

Keyword Search

Also found in the navigation bar at left. Enter a word or phrase (such as "mayor" or "school district" or "soccer"), choose whether you want to search your town or all towns, then click "Search." You'll be given a list of all stories, photos and events that meet your criteria.
